HARLOTS: Our Latest Obsession!

As millennials, we were blessed with the opportunity and the luxury of the term "binge-watching." We have had our favorites from oldie but goodie TV show gems like The Golden Girls, Roseanne, and Queer as Folk to newer gems like Netflix's Orange is the New Black and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. But just but a few weeks ago, we discovered our latest obsession. A Hulu Original entitled, HARLOTS, a British-produced series created by Alison Newman and Moira Buffini. The series is based on The Covent Garden Ladies by Hallie Rubenhold. So far there are only eight episodes, and we have been stretching them out as long as we can to make them last.

The story takes place in 1763, where women — although judged and frowned upon by the ultra religious — sell sex to make a living. During this time there were only two options for women (according to the show) to either marry a well-off man, or become a prostitute. Within the four episodes we have watched only two brothels exist that are ran by Margaret Wells (Samantha Morton) and Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville). Margaret (Morton) runs a low-class brothel (which includes her daughter Lucy played by Eloise Smyth) with regular customers, while Lydia (Manville) tends to higher class gentlemen such as royalty. So much hostility between the women as they both take hits at one another by stealing harlots, and tarnishing each other's business reputations. The chemistry between the actors portraying their characters is out of this world! We love a good film, song, or book that really grabs us emotionally! There is just so much more drama, humor, sex, and emotional scenes packed into this fresh new series, we can't bare to spoil it for you!!! You MUST go WATCH!

We love all of the characters, we love that there has been interracial relationships and homosexuality included in the story. Our two personal favorite characters are Fanny Lambert played by Bronwyn James (we want to be her gay best friend)! and we would be lying if we said we didn't have a crush on the sassy lil glamboyant, Prince Rasselas played by Josef Altin.

We have to admit, we are in love with the show, and we REALLY REALLY REALLY hope there will be a Season 2!! Eight episodes are simply not enough!!
